1st HEROES RUN 2012

The first ever HEROES RUN will happen this coming December 2 at Fort Andres Bonifacio Complex, Taguig City.

This is the first run that I'll be participating with A CAUSE. This event aims to provide medical assistance to our living heroes in uniform: Battle Wounded in Action (WIA) personnel of the Philippine Army as well as our athletes such as the Dragon Boat Team (Philippine Team), Boxers, Athletics (Olympian Maristela Torres), Soccer Players (Roel Gener and Manuel Sacapano of the AZKAL), Volleybelles (National V-League Champion) and other event that our soldier athletes excel both in the local and international scene. They are the beneficiaries through the different health care benefits provided by the Army General Hospital (AGH).

Aside from being one of the sponsors in this run, this will also be my BIRTHDAY RUN! Yehey! I'll be doing 21k here, hope I'll be able to beat my PR :)

If you don't have any run on December 2, see you all at the 1st HEROES RUN!

Let's RUN... with the HEROES

Race for Life 2012

I've been attending Victory Christian Fellowship (Pioneer Chapter) for more than a year now and I'm very happy to say that I'll be running my first Race for Life run this year. Yehey! :)

My VGroup and I initially talked about it prior to registration period. We said, we wanted to register and run together. It's also a good time to bond with other church members and at the same time help those kids in Real Life foundation.

I'll be running 10k (the farthest distance they have) with CJ. My VGroup members will be doing 5k.

Race for life will be held on November 30 (Bonifacio Day) at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

See you all at the FINISH LINE!

Men's Health Philippines Urbanathlon

6 days to go and the battle is on! Already got my race kit for Men's Health Philippines Urbanathlon which will be held at SM Mall of Asia Grounds on October 14. Thanks to Philippine Airforce (Joar) for the free race kit!

I'll be doing a 10k run with obstacles with my Spartan friends Jun and JR!

I really don't have any idea about the obstacles 'til I saw these online, yay! If you'll be joining, take a look at these obstacles and start doing core training now (which exactly what I plan to do for tomorrow's ANR session)

There you go! Good luck to all of us! See you all on Sunday! :D

TBR Dream Team Run : Team Ayala Tatsulok

T-Sheryl, B-Karlene, R-Tine Anne : Team AYALA TATSULOK
Half the distance, thrice the fun! Finally, I was able to register for the TBR Dream Team Run! Yehey! Gosh, it was epic. I had to look for teammates second to the last day of registration and go to BGC to check if there's an available slot. Thank God, I made it!

With Sheryl and Tine Anne of Ayala Triads, we call ourselves the TEAM AYALA TATSULOK! (coined after Team Ayala Triads) Thanks to Belle for the Tagalog version suggestion  :)

I'm really excited for this one. Though I haven't tried running in TBR nor registered for 2013's FM, being part of this run is big enough. This run is also memorable because this will be my first PAID run. Yeah, thanks to my generous sponsors for the couple of free runs I had and will have. Hehehe :)

This will be a new route for me too since it'll be held at Nuvali. Been running here in the Metro but haven't really had the chance to run out of town.

I'm sure it'll be fun, though we're aiming to beat our PRs or at least be competitive enough to be within the 2:30 time, I think what's more important is the fun and learning will have during the race.

I am excited.

Goodluck to everyone who'll be running! See you in Nuvali! :)

KOTR Experience: My first 16.8k

My third medal is in! What a nice medal from Adidas King of the Road Run! Glad I finished my first 16.8k strong and injury free!

This is also my first KOTR experience. Thanks again to Adidas Philippines and to ANR Ayala Triangle (TRIADS) for the free KOTR race kit! Indeed, my diligence to attend the ANR sessions paid well.

Route is pretty much familiar, from BGC to Buendia and back (via Kalayaan flyover). I didn't expect that it'd be much difficult going back, thanks to Moi's advise to push really hard when it's uphill.

Thanks also to all my pacers : Marven, Moi, Jeff, Donald and Gan for running with me.

I would also like to commend all of the teams who were cheering in the hydration stations. You guys did great, love the costumes too.

Glad I was able to manage to put a smile while running (not obvious that I'm really tired and so eager to cross the finish line to get my medal and rest) Special thanks to Mr. Photographer (Angelo Lagumbay) for this floating running photo of mine. You captured it well, nice timing! Kudos to you brother!

As for the race result and analysis, here it is! Still finished the race in sub 2. Yehey!

Quite good considering I walked most of the time especially when I was at the flyover.

Still ranked 36th in my division. Hehe :)

I know I could have done it better, but there's always a next time.

Time to learn, time to train...

'til my next race! See you on the road runners! :)

Adidas King of the Road 2012

Thank you ADIDAS Philippines and to my TRIADS Family for the FREE KOTR race kit.

Early this May, I joined ANR (AdiNation of Runners) Ayala Chapter and blessed enough to reached the 75% attendance cut-off which gave me the opportunity to get a free race kit.

I'm also excited for this race for SOOOOO many reasons :

✓ It'll be the culminating event of all our ANR sessions :)
✓ We'll be manning a hydration booth which is part of a friendly competition against all ANR teams. (excited to see what the team has prepared)
It'll be my first time to wear a PINK singlet
✓ I'll be running 16.8 k with almost all the TRIADS (can't wait, I'm sure it'll be fun!)
✓ I look forward to receiving my first 16.8k medal :)

See you on the road runners! More than a week to go! :)

MBC Run : my 1st Running Medal ♥

This is kinda late considering I had my first medal last July. Thanks to Facebook for the reminder and for taking care of all the important details I need to include here. As mentioned, I had my first running medal (yeeeesss!) for my first 15k run at MBC Run.

It wasn't that tiring at all even after the race, I guess it was because of the good pacing. Finished my first 15k with a time of 1:46:33 (Yehey)

Below is my race analysis.

See you on the road runners!

PS : Thanks to Spartan Runner for being my pacer :)

Journey to my first Half Mary :)

After almost 4 months of running, I finally did my first half marathon. Yehey! To be honest I was quite scared, excited and anxious before the event. How will I do that? 21k, hello??? Will I ever finish that? What if not? So many questions....

It became worst when I saw the route! Looking at it made me really ponder if I'm really sure of what I'll be doing. From BGC to MOA, that's pretty far huh.
I was a bit early at the starting line, first time, no wonder. It was raining even before the gunstart, we were literally WET. The rain made my shoes a bit heavy but I like it that way, I think I can jive with the rain better than too much sunlight. It can be an instant hydration too, haha :p

I started in my normal slow pace to save more energy that will last 'til the end of the race. Good thing, it worked. I didn't do galloway but kept the pace as is and only stopped at hydration stations. Thanks also to a barefoot runner who became my pacer (gosh, can't imagine myself running barefoot for 21k, I salute you man!)

And done! I was able to finish the race in 2hours 41 minutes, not bad for a first timer they say.

I also like the idea that I haven't encountered any cramps along the way. Yeah, thank God for the strong finish!

Here's my race result and analysis. Top 50 in my category! Next target, a time of 2:30 for 21k. :)

MBC Run Prep :)

Two days left and I'll be doing my first 15k! Yey! Thanks to MBC for the free race kits! In preparation for this run, I did PLYOMETRICS + RUN last Tuesday's aNR's session. I was about to run yesterday but forgot to bring my stuff. Yikes. Anyway, I'll be doing some serious carbo loading starting today and figure out the best thing to do to avoid cramps and side stitch.

A bit familiar with the race route and hoping I'll finish the run strong and happy. Still nervous about it, (yikes) but need to accept the challenge of running a greater distance.

As to what will be the result... let's see on Sunday!

Meanwhile, goodluck and have a safe race to all the people who will be running! :)

***by the way, I have to say I love my bib number :) 1,000! yey! :)

Hey! I'm still running ;)

I'm back after hibernating for almost 2 months (well only here) and I'm still running! Now, running better - better PR, pace, endurance, everything! Thanks to all the people who have helped me reach this stage. I can't say yet that I've gone through a lot but rather would say I'm still in the process of becoming better and better each day & I'm loving it.

So after my first 5k run, I did a 6k run at Brooks Run (happily :D) at 38 mins. Wasn't able to sleep much before the race (what else is new?) because of my boxing event prior to that but was able to manage it, gracefully! Yey! Experienced side stitch (again and again) after 1k and cramps (after 3k) but I didn't stop. Thank God, I survived!

(6k) Brooks Run Happy - June 02
After my 6k run, I did my first ever 10k run at Run United 2 (RU2) with a time of 1:10 mins. Felt so nervous before the race thinking if I can actually finish it. Thanks to Moy (Guillermo Lim) for being my pacer. We started at easy pace, reserved all our energy and we made it! The MOA route was good, the rain that morning was a bit uneasy but still fine.

(10k) Run United 2 - June 17

And yeah, just recently I joined my first ever aNR run. I was really surprise when I found out I was part of the group who will be competing for 5k individual female category. Though, it's already given and an obvious fact that it's hard to compete with others (especially to UP HBK) whose members are mostly part of varsity team. Our TL told us to just have fun and enjoy. I made this an opportunity to improve my 5k time and reach my target PR. Thank God, I made it at 28.XX mins. Yey! :) Made 5 stops (walk) because of side stitch (never ending fight with side stitch) but still had a good time. Thanks to my pacer CJ and to the rest of TRIADS for all the support and cheer! XOXO

(5k) ANR Run - June 30

I don't consider myself yet a runner. I know I have a lot to experience and learn... but I know I'm on my way... and I'm getting there :)

My First 5K (Run Karlene Run Series)

I just finished my first REAL 5K run. Thanks to Summit Water and 100 Plus for the compli :) It was actually not my first time to register, I've registered for several running events before but wasn't able to make it because of invalid and unacceptable reasons :-p Thank God this time I finally made it!

LIFESAVERS RUN it is! The gun start for 5K is supposed to start at 5:45am, I woke up around 4:50am. I think I was late already so I kinda feel lazy to get up and prepare for that run. Thanks to my friend Louis for encouraging me that I can still make it!

I arrived at the venue 8 mins after the gun start but it didn't discourage me to continue and finish the 5k run. Even if I was the only one left I still continued. I even surpassed those running for 3k (Haha :p)

And I reached the finish line with a time of 39:35, not bad for a first timer my friends keep on saying. Hopefully, they're right :)

Next goal, 35mins time for 5K. Need to train, train and train.

Run Karlene Run

I recently joined a group of runners in Ayala Triangle. The group is called aNR (adiNation of Runners) who meet every Tuesday, from 7pm-9pm to run, do drills and train for upcoming running events/marathons. Thanks to my friends from the rowing community for referring this group to me.

My first day was fun, though my thigh and legs hurt after two days, my runner friend said it's okay for beginners like me. If I get used to it, it'll definitely be gone. We did 2-full round run at Ayala Triangle for the warm up, then stretching (from head to foot), then 4 rounds again (each round is approximately 1.2K) of 3:1 (3 minutes run, 1 minute walk) with 2 water breaks. Since I'm a beginner, I'll be doing this for quite sometime.

My second week was a progression. This time we did a 4:1 (4 minutes run, 1 minute walk) drills. I'm getting used to it I should say and I'm pretty excited to join the upcoming events we usually sponsor for Summit and 100 Plus. I'm excited to see how I'll be able to manage it. Hopefully, make a good time.

This is the start of my running journey. It's hard, it's not just the usual run/jog I see everyday. It takes a lot of discipline and determination to be able to achieve my goal (to be a runner). It's also a good way to stay fit and have the appetite to eat a lot (and eventually to gain weight). As to where my feet will lead me? I don't know yet.

All I know is I'll keep on RUNNING. Run Karlene Run.

"No man will ever claim you unless he claims you from me... for I have reserved a man for you who has my heart and loves me more than he will ever love you... for i won't give you unless he asks you from me. He's asleep.. don't wake him. He's busy for me, for my kingdom. Soon you will know him in my perfect timing.

How to Know when I am REALLY in Love and When do I pursue a girl?

A lot of people are asking, “How do I know if it is really love?” This is such a tricky question because the heart is deceitful above all things. Some of us have that mushy feeling towards a girl and then find out later after a month  that the girl has some flaws, that we could actually change our minds instantly.

Some men once they are able to get the girl in bed instantly changes. The once sweet guy would no longer call or show up.

So how do you know that you are really in love?

The basic problem we have is that we equate love with feelings. Love is an emotion I know BUT love is also a decision. You don’t love base solely on feelings. That is why divorce rate and annulment cases are high because we feel that we have lost that loving feeling. We can’t live on that premise. Living on that premise that love is a feeling would imply that I could also leave my daddy duties when I don’t feel like loving my kids, or commit adultery legally because I don’t have feelings for my wife.

The world’s system has taught us to love with just our emotions. Look where it has gotten us into. Affairs, broken marriages, teen pregnancy, AIDS and the like.

LOVE IS A DECISION. We decide to love the girl we are going to marry. And that is how you know if you are ready. Are you willing to marry the girl you are pursuing. If you are not even thinking about marriage, forget courting a girl it is a waste of her time.

LOVE IS A DECISION which also means that when I court a girl, I have a game plan. I don’t just court the girl because I want to but I am going to lead her. The problem is most men can’t even lead themselves and they put other girls into their mess.Ladies you have to be discerning. You can’t fall for the charms or the looks – ask the guy his game plan.

Thoughts about being SINGLE...

Singleness can strengthen our inward character and qualities. It is the time to gain the strength to stand alone and the time to discover His gentle arms of love. Singleness also allows time to focus on practical preparation - a time to discover and develop one's talents and life skills... and how to use it for the Lord.

Singleness is a time to seek God with an undivided and undistracted heart.  Being single is an opportunity to discover who God has made us to be and what He has called us to in this life.

Singleness is the best time to bless others as much as possible :)

How can you know that you already found THE ONE?

If the friendship or relationship is drawing us closer to God and producing godly fruit in our lives, that is a way of knowing that it might be something God Himself has put together.

But if the relationship is drawing us away from God and other priorities, we need to seriously re-evaluate things.

What a REAL Guy Wants...

1. A woman who has mystery - who guards her heart and isn't easy to get

2. A woman with backbone - someone who has high standards

3. A woman who is focused on God and isn't easily distracted by men

4. A woman who doesn't throw herself at guy, but allows the guy to win her heart over time

What kind of woman are you???
